- 1 cup Japanese short-grain sushi rice
- 1.5 cups water
- 3 tablespoons plain rice vinegar
- 1/2 teaspoon fine powdered sugar
- 2 teaspoons tamari sauce
- 6 nori sheets
- 2 carrots, boiled and cut into long strips
- 1 avocado, sliced thinly
- 1 cucumber, cut into long strips
- 1/2 cup fried tofu or 6 shrimp tempura
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- Roasted sesame seeds
First, cook the sushi rice with water in a rice cooker. Don't worry, it's very easy!
Once your rice is ready, add rice vinegar, sugar, and tamari sauce. Mix well and cover with a kitchen towel.
Now we've come to the most enjoyable part! Place a nori sheet on your bamboo mat. Then spread ¼ cup of seasoned sushi rice over ¾ of the nori sheet.
For vegan sushi, add carrot, avocado, cucumber, and fried tofu. Brush the edges of the nori sheet with water and roll tightly. Apply sesame oil and cut into 6 slices.
For shrimp sushi, follow the same steps but use shrimp tempura instead of tofu. Now things are getting exciting!
Finally, sprinkle with sesame seeds and serve with tamari sauce. Be sure to try it!
