Try Once, You'll Always Make It: Gluten-Free Challah Bread
Today we will make a wonderful gluten-free challah bread with you. Making this traditional Jewish bread gluten-free might take some courage, but believe me, you'll love the result! The soft texture and fluffy nature of our bread will captivate you. Plus, braiding it is quite enjoyable. Come on, let's explore this flavor together in your kitchen!
- 2 teaspoons dry instant yeast
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 cup warm water
- 4 tablespoons sugar
- 1/5 teaspoon salt
- 2 eggs
- 2.5 cups regular gluten-free flour
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
- 1 tablespoon poppy seeds
Don't worry, it's very easy! First, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast in a bowl. Cover with plastic wrap and let it sit in a warm place for 10 minutes; it's ready when bubbles form.
Now things are getting exciting! Mix flour, melted butter, salt, whole egg, and egg white in a bowl. Don't forget to save the egg yolk; we'll brush it on the challah before baking.
Pour the prepared yeast mixture into the flour mixture.
Knead well, adding flour until you get a soft but non-sticky dough.
Divide your dough into three equal parts, now it's braiding time! Form the strands and place your braid on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Cover your tray with plastic wrap and let it rest in a warm place for 30-50 minutes. Don't forget to preheat the oven to 350F!
When the challah has risen, brush the top with egg yolk and sprinkle with sesame and poppy seeds. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes.
Let your bread cool a bit after removing it from the oven, slice it, and enjoy!
