- 4 cups flour
- 5 heaping tablespoons semolina
- 180 grams room temperature butter
- 2 eggs (1 egg yolk will be separated)
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 packet baking powder
- 3.5 cups granulated sugar
- 3.5 cups water
- 2-3 drops lemon juice
- 1 egg yolk
To prepare the şekerpare syrup, place 3.5 cups of granulated sugar and 3.5 cups of water in a pot. Once the sugar dissolves and the water starts to boil, add 2-3 drops of lemon juice. Remove your syrup from the stove and let it cool.
Now let's move on to the dough stage. Take the ingredients except for flour and semolina; 180 grams of butter, 2 egg whites, 1 cup of powdered sugar, and 1 packet of baking powder into a bowl and mix well.
Then add 5 heaping tablespoons of semolina and continue mixing.
After adding 4 cups of flour, knead until you get a soft dough that does not stick to your hands.
Take walnut-sized pieces from the dough and shape them into ovals on a greased tray.
Brush with egg yolk and shape with a fork.
Bake in a preheated oven at 180 degrees for about 20 minutes. Adjust the time according to your oven's performance.
Let the şekerpare rest at room temperature for 3-4 minutes after removing from the oven. Then gradually pour the cold syrup over the hot şekerpare.
Let it soak the syrup for at least 2 hours and then serve. Enjoy!
